Governors

At Tickhill St Mary’s Primary School, our Governing Body is made up of dedicated volunteer members who work in close partnership with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to set the vision and strategic direction of the school. Their primary aim is to ensure the delivery of a high standard of education for all pupils and to make certain that our school is the very best it can be.

The Governing Body has a vital strategic leadership role, including oversight of safeguarding and pupil welfare, compliance with statutory duties, and ensuring effective policies and procedures are in place. Governors regularly monitor key aspects of school life such as pupil progress, attendance, behaviour, and safeguarding arrangements. They also review and approve school policies to ensure they meet legal requirements and reflect best practice.

We hold three Full Governing Body meetings each year, supported by two main sub-committees: Curriculum and Standards (CAST) and Resources and Team (REST), which meet at least once per term. All governors receive ongoing training to deepen their understanding of school governance, enabling them to support, challenge, and hold leaders to account effectively while representing the interests of our school community.

Governors actively engage with the school by visiting regularly and speaking with pupils to hear their views and experiences firsthand. We are proud to have a committed Governing Body comprised of individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and expertise, united in their dedication to the success and wellbeing of all children at St Mary’s.

Please note Associate Governors do not have voting rights.

You can contact Gareth Rowbotham, Chair of the Governing Body, via email at growbotham@tickhillstmary.co.uk.
