Theological Rationale

At Tickhill St Mary's CofE Primary and Nursery School, our vision is rooted in Jesus' words:

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
John 10:10

As a Church of England school, we believe that Jesus Christ is God's gift to the world. Through His life, teachings, death and resurrection, Jesus revealed God's love for humanity and opened the way for all people to experience life in all its fullness. This promise of abundant life lies at the heart of our Christian vision and shapes everything we do.

We believe that every person is created in the image of God, deeply loved by Him and of immeasurable worth. Because of this, every member of our school community is valued, respected and nurtured. We seek to create an environment where children and adults can flourish academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually, developing the knowledge, skills and character needed to live life well and make a positive difference in the world.

Our vision inspires us to ensure that all members of our school community are able to experience the fullness of life that Jesus spoke about. We understand this as more than academic success. It encompasses joyful learning, strong relationships, spiritual growth, good mental and physical wellbeing, service to others, and a deep sense of hope and purpose.

The values that underpin The St Mary's Way reflect our Christian understanding of human flourishing:

  • Resilient: drawing strength and hope when facing challenges.
  • Curious: seeking wisdom, understanding and a lifelong love of learning.
  • Respectful: recognising the dignity and value of every individual.
  • Accountable: taking responsibility for our actions and choices.
  • Active Members of Our Community: serving others with compassion, generosity and love.

These values are woven throughout school life and encourage our children to grow into confident, compassionate and responsible individuals who contribute positively to their communities.

Our Christian vision shapes our curriculum, collective worship, relationships and decision-making. It drives our commitment to inclusion, ensuring that every child, regardless of background, ability or circumstance, is given the opportunity to thrive and fulfil their God-given potential. We strive to be a community where all are welcomed, all belong and all are encouraged to flourish. [tickhillst...arys.co.uk], [tickhillst...arys.co.uk]

Spiritual development is an essential part of life at Tickhill St Mary's. Through worship, prayer, Religious Education, reflection, outdoor learning and experiences beyond the classroom, we create opportunities for children and adults to encounter wonder, ask profound questions, reflect on their beliefs and develop a deeper understanding of themselves, others and God.

Our school prayer expresses our vision for the whole community:

Oh Lord, bless our school,
That learning together
And playing together
We may live life in all its fullness.
In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Through our partnership with families, the church and the wider community, we seek to live out our Christian vision every day, helping all to grow in wisdom, hope and love as they experience the life in all its fullness that Jesus promises.
