Week 2 Activities
Remote Learning - We Can Do This Year 2! 
Following school closures, we have decided to make the children’s learning experience streamlined and as simplistic as possible. Therefore we will ensure that we upload content ready for Monday mornings. The Government advice is that primary schools should have approximately three hours of work per day. With this in mind, St Mary’s will concentrate on at least three areas of study per day which will vary from year group to year group and may change each week.
The work will begin from tomorrow: 06.01.21.
To supplement your child’s learning, we will be offering CGP books at a significantly discounted price which the office will need to know by Friday the 8th January. These books have been handpicked by the teachers in order to best support the needs of the children. These are available via the school office.

We are also celebrating Chinese New Year on Friday 12th February so have a look at the activities below and get creative!!
Spring One
Our topic this term is called "Brr! Why is it cold outside?" and this topic is Geography based. We will be looking at all the oceans and continents and then we will be looking more closely at how the climate in the UK is different to the climate in Antarctica. We will be reading The Runaway Iceberg in Reading lessons, exploring the text and using our VIPERS (Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explain, Retrieval and Sequence/Summarise) skills to unpick the story in depth. For the first half of Spring 1 we will be learning to write a Non-Chronological report about Penguins and for the other half of Spring 1, we will be using the book "Lost and Found" by Oliver Jeffers to write a creative story linked to the topic.
In Maths we will continue exploring Multiplication and Division of 2's, 5's and 10's and answers word problem questions using these facts to help us. We will then be moving on to Addition and Subtraction of 2 digit numbers towards the end of the half term. During RE we will explore the Gospels and read some of the stories that came from these, showing the importance of the text. In Art we will be learning about John Kelly; an Antarctica Artist and we will be creating our own landscape, textured Art.

Welcome to Year Two!
I hope that you have had a lovely summer break and have spent time with your families making the most of this beautiful weather. I have had a lovely time with my doggo, going for walks in and out of the sea!
I cannot wait to meet you all and start this school year, and I am sure that you will all make me feel welcome on our Year Two journey. We have lots to learn and we will have lots of fun and smiles along the way. Don't forget, our new classroom is round the corner to your old one, where Year Two was last year.
PE will be held on Friday afternoon, so please do not forget to bring in your PE kits (all labelled!) and you can leave them in school for the week. Forest School will be on Monday afternoon so don't forget your wellies!
