Summer Term in Year Five

We hope you have all had a very hoppy Easter, and are ready to come back to school for a really exciting term.

We will be travelling back in time to the land of the Ancient Egyptians this term. On Tuesday 2nd May we will launch our topic with an amazing Egyptian Day during which we will get to grips with Egyptian artefacts, play Egyptian games and of course, witness a real life mummification. Our class book, Secrets of a Sun King by Emma Carroll links beautifully with our topic.

Our Science topic this term is Materials and we have lots of interesting experiments ready for you to tackle.

As a special treat, we are welcoming Mr Sanders to year five. He will be working alongside Mrs B and Mrs H to deliver a fun and exciting range of activities and experiences. There is a short message from Mr Sanders below.

Here's to a happy and sun filled summer term.

Hi, my name is Mr Sanders,

I'm currently studying my Primary PGCE at Sheffield Hallam University. I studied an undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise science at the University of Lincoln in 2021 which lead to me searching for sports graduate roles within the community. Over the course of 2022, I completed a government scheme for those aged 18-25 called The UK Year of Service. My placement role within the scheme involved sports coaching in primary schools across the Mansfield district alongside being head coach within a youth basketball programme, specialising in basketball coaching and wheelchair sports. To further progress my career, I chose to apply to university in hopes of pursuing a career within classroom teaching which has brought me to Tickhill St. Mary's. I’ve spent the first few months in Lancaster Class (Year 1) and after having a really successful placement, I’ve requested to stay at Tickhill St. Mary’s where I am now going to be teaching in year 5. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children.

I hope to see you all soon, Mr Sanders

Week Two - Evacuate!

We had an amazing day at Perlethorpe experiencing life an an evacuee. Please ask your children about their experiences, and take time to look at a few of our photographs.

Week One - Let's Go Fly a Kite!

We have had a fabulous first week back at school in Y5. Our first swimming lesson was amazing. The children were well behaved and Mrs Sanderson can't wait for next week.

Our class had 100% attendance - ask the children what we do when that happens .

The fun we had making and decorating kites for the Tickhill Horticultural Show was wonderful, and helped to lighten the somber mood on the sad news of the death of our much loved Queen.

Evacuation day is Monday 12th September. Remember costumes and lunches.

Here are our fabulous kites. I hope some of you managed to enter the competition and maybe even win ... ?

smiley   Welcome to Year Five   smiley

I hope you have had a relaxing and enjoyable summer, and are eager to return to school. Year Five is a busy and exciting place to be. Fascinating topics, new experiences and challenges await.

Please take a few moments to take a look at our WW2 Knowledge Organiser - this will give you a few clues at to what we will be getting up to this term as we travel back in time.

REMINDER   Our class evacuation to Perlethorpe will take place on Monday 12th September. Children need to arrive in school dressed as evacuees with their packed lunch. Luggage labels will be provided so that nobody gets misplaced.

This year, Scarbrough class will be taught by both Mrs Buckle and Mrs Houghton.

Children will also receive additional support from Mrs Chapman, Mrs Vernon-Lilley and Mrs Burns.

Swimming will take place on a Tuesday afternoon - beginning on the very first day of term.

Please collect children from outside the classroom at the end of the school day. It may take me a while to link parents with children so please be patient with me as I get to know you all.

We are looking forward to a brand new year and seeing you all again soon.

If parents need to contact us, please use   tickhillscarbrough@gmail.com      It would be useful for us to have a full set of parent emails as we now use this system to arrange parents evening meetings, so if you could send us a quick message in response to the recent email that would be great.

See you soon!
