Summer Term 1 2022 will be a busy term for Clarel class!
In History, we will be looking at The Great Fire of London; why the fire started and what happened as a result and in Design and Technology we will be making a fire engine! If any parents have a link with the Fire Service, it'd be great to get a fire engine to visit school.
Forest School will continue every Monday afternoon and PE kits will be needed every day because hopefully the weather will be warmer and we may go outside any day for some games.
In music we will be practising our ocarinas ready for St Mary's Musical Extravaganza in July.
Throughout May, the children will be working in small groups to complete their SATs in Reading and Mathematics. We will keep these tests low key and quite informal. No one needs to worry about these.
Leadership are currently trying to source a teacher for the summer term for Y2. Obviously we want the right person in place and so, for the start of term at least, Mrs Houghton, Mrs Over, Miss Burwell and Mrs Sanderson will continue to teach in Y2.
Stunning Gymnast
This Superstar blows us away daily with her academic abilities and all the things that make her a well-rounded, polite and much loved member of Clarel Class … but she has also kept a rather large secret from us!! Little did we know until this week, that it’s not just Football that she excels at, she is also an extremely skilful gymnast! Here she is with some stunning photos of her performing some of her skills at the Championships in Leicester with great strength and focus! We are so proud of you!!
Year 2 looked incredible today, dressed as their favourite characters from their chosen books! It was so great to see such a vast range of characters brought to life and they all loved showing off their outfits in our whole school assembly parade. Well done Year 2 !
Collins E-Books !! ๐
In FS and KS1, we are using the Collins e-Library to assign children a book that they can read at home. The children will be assigned books in line with their reading level and there will be a new one assigned to them each week. As usual, children are allowed and encouraged to also read books they have at home for further enjoyment and engagement in reading! :)
Curriculum - Autumn 1
English - Writing a postcard and an animal fact file. Our focus book is Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett.
Maths - Place Value
Guided Reading - We will be covering all the VIPERS elements (Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explain, Retrieve and Sequencing) with our focus book Night Monkey Day Monkey by Julia Donaldson.
Welcome to Year 2!
I'm Miss James, the Year 2 teacher and our class TA is our Forest School Lead: Mr. Kirtley. We also have Miss Thompson in Year 2 with us this year too! We are so excited for a fun year with you; growing together and living life in all it's fullness! We want you to individually be the best person you are capable of being!
P.E & Forest School in Y2:
P.E is currently on a Tuesday as we have Active Fusion with Year 2 for a few weeks but our normal time-tabled day for P.E is a Friday. Just so we are always prepared for any potential changes, we say to bring in your P.E kit on a Monday and keep it in school until the Friday.
Forest School is on a Monday afternoon with Mr. Kirtley. Children should be changing into outdoor clothing for this afternoon as exploring can sometimes get messy! Into the Winter months, waterproof coats and trousers, jumpers and wellies are all recommended.
