Summer Two

This half terms topic is called To Infinity and Beyond! We will be learning all about space through our texts, Whatever Next! and Aliens Love Underpants.

We will be sequencing both of the texts and rehearsing the key events of both. We will be writing simple sentences about each of the stories, labelling aliens and writing space facts amongst lots of other writing activities!

Within our provision we have created a space center to help us learn all about space and astronauts. We will enjoy painting pictures of space, making aliens in the playdough and creating rockets and spaceships out of small and large construction materials!

In Maths we will be building on numbers beyond 10 through a range of different activities, looking at counting patterns beyond 10, exploring spatial reasoning, adding more and taking away.

We will begin phase 4 in phonics which will focus on CCVC CVCC words however it is important to continue securing phase 3.

Spring Two

Welcome back, we hope you have had a wonderful half term.

This half term our topic will be all about planting, growing and the ever changing world around us, particularly the start of spring.

We will be sharing the books Jaspers Beanstalk and the Enormous Turnip. We will be finding out about what plants need to grow and planting our own beans and watching as they grow, observing the changes that happen and recording some of these.

We will enhance our provision linked to these stories and have fun in our new garden centre role play area.

In maths we will begin by learning all about length and height. We will measure Jaspers beanstalk and compare the different heights. We will also be exploring height on lots of other contexts including measuring ourselves in class. We will look at length by comparing different items and investigate if we can find things longer and shorter than a set length using a ruler as a guide.

In Phonics we will be recapping and revisiting our Phase 3 phonics and securing our recognition of the graphemes and digraphs. We will be focusing on reading words and sentences along with the tricky words which were taught across phase 3.

SpringOne

A very warm welcome back to everyone and a Happy new year! This half term I would like to welcome back Miss James from her maternity leave. She is an experienced teacher who will be working alongside myself and teaching the class every Friday. Miss James has been into school before half term to spend time with the children and will be in again this week before taking the class on Friday. I am sure you will offer her a very warm welcome, she is extremely excited to be working in early years and the children will love her too!

Our topic this half term is called ‘Old MacDonald’. The children will spend the first two weeks talking about their Christmas experiences and finding out all about Chinese New Year. We will be making lanterns, Chinese dragons and trying our hand at writing some Chinese symbols. We will be sharing the story the great race in class and the children will be using talk for writing to help them to remember the story sequence before having a go at changing some of the story.

Other texts that we will share are Farmer Duck and a Squash and a Squeeze. We will engage in lots of opportunities for story telling, sequencing and writing.

The children will continue with our phonics programme and secure their segmenting and blending skills. Over the next half term the children will be learning lots of new digraphs and tricky words and so it is important to continue supporting your child at home with their emerging reading and writing.

We look forwarded to seeing you tomorrow!

Miss Belnavis :)

Autumn Term Two

Welcome back! I hope you have had a lovely half term and are ready for the term ahead! Our topic this half term is 'Bears'. We will be sharing lots of stories about bears such as we are going on a bear hunt and where's my teddy?. We will also look at the different kinds of bears, their habitats and do some research about them. As we move closer to Christmas we will be looking at polar bears and share some Christmas stories such as 'The Jolly Christmas Postman'.

In Maths, number, we will be looking at representing, comparing and the composition of numbers 1, 2 & 3. We will then move on to representing numbers to 5 and one more and one less. In measure, shape and spatial thinking we will focus on pattern, circles and triangles, positional language, shames with 4 sides and time.

In Phonics we will continue to introduce phonemes and digraphs and continue to develop our blending for reading. There will be lots of fun provision activities to support our reading and writing and to develop our fine motor and letter formation.
