Summer Term 2
As we move into the last half term of Year 2, we are very proud of the children for completing their "SATs" with such calmness, and even cheerfulness! They've been fantastic, and we're so impressed with them.
They deserve some fun now, so watch out for a letter detailing plans for an (educational!) treat!
We are pleased to welcome some students from York St. John University for the next couple of weeks. Miss Rhodes, Miss Pollitt and Miss Brown have worked with the children all year, and have some great ideas for some extra-special activities.
Clarel is continuing to study Brazil, under the heading: "Can We All Be Olympic Athletes?". We are keen to put them all to the test on some outdoor athletics fun, whilst thinking about how to fuel our bodies with healthy eating.
Please see below for this term's Creative Home Learning Challenge!
A lot of the children in Year Two have joined up to Mr. Smith's choir, too, and are looking forward to representing the school with their beautiful voices.
Summer Term 2016
Welcome back, I hope you had a lovely holiday and the Easter bunny managed to visit you!
This term in Science we will be learning about plants and growing some of our own from seeds. In topic work we will also be learning about different countries and comparing them with England. We will be looking forward to the Olympic Games which take place in Brazil during August.
Hopefully the weather will be kind so make sure you have your PE kit in school everyday - we might sneak outside for some games!
Here's to another great term

During the Autumn term Clarel class have worked so hard to step up to the challenges of year 2 and take on new responsibilities. I have got a class of fantastic children that have an ‘I will try’ culture and will take on new and difficult challenges and keep practicing to improve. If you came to see our Christmas performance you will know how confident and jelled as a team the Clarel children have become; they owned that performance. The feedback from parents made us all very proud.
A new year brings new challenges for us all to conquer again! Our Spring Topic is 'Painting the Past'. This term we are focusing on Art and we aim to learn and develop skills in drawing and mainly painting to learn how to create art in a similar style to L.S. Lowry. We are also going to look at the life of our Queen Elizabeth II and contrast it to the lifestyle of Queen Elizabeth I. We are also going to read year 2 friendly versions of stories from Shakespeare and learn about love, battles and tragedy; maybe we can create alternative endings or twists to his stories?
Unfortunately, I will have to be out of class for a few weeks to have a shoulder operation and recover, but I will be back as soon as possible. 2016! Lets go for it!
PE Days will stay the same as Autumn and take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Remember, you can always catch me after any school day if you wish to discuss anything about your child's education.
Mr Fletcher.
