Welcome to our Y6 Class Page
Welcome to our Summer 2 term - I can't believe the school year is going by so quickly - we are in our final half term! As I write, as I write the sun is shining and summer has arrived, our lovely year 6 will be fleeing our primary nest and starting to fly!
We are continuing our geography topic: "A whale of a time in Whitby". In this unit we shall use our previously learned geographical skills to understand map symbols and the 8 points of a compass. Our main focus will be studying coasts and erosion, basing a lot of our work around Whitby.
In English we shall be reading Whitby Witches by Robin Jarvis. We will be focusing on writing a portal story and a recount. In reading we shall use the same book to continue our VIPERS ( details of VIPERS are on our class page) keeping our skills going ready for secondary school.
We shall continue our French unit - This is France - which links to our geography unit as we explore France. Our music this half term will focus on our production. For our Summer production this year we are doing "Change the world together", it is a story about the changing climate, lots of comedy and lovely singing, look out for emails with details about tickets for July 4th and 5th at 6.00p.m.
In PE we will focus on Forest School, please ensure your child/children have spare clothes in school for Forest School on Thursdays but also PE kit in all week as we have lots of other opportunities such as Mr Dickinson's cricket tournament and practice for sports day.
In art we will focus on sketching and looking at the work of Hockney including some digital work based on Hockney's idea of "joining" for the Queen's jubilee.
This term in R.E. we will be digging deeper on our topic "What is the best way for a Muslim to show commitment to God?".

Homework will be given on a Friday and due in the following Thursday, we will mark together so we can learn from it.
We hope to do PE on Monday and Thursday - please ensure PE kits (indoor and outdoor) are in school all week as other opportunities may arise.
