Summer Term in Year Five

I hope you have all had a very hoppy Easter, and are ready to come back to school for a really exciting term. I have spent most of the holidays watching our beautiful butterflies hatching. I'm so disappointed that you didn't get to see this happen in school but the weather was against us. There are pictures of your butterflies enjoying a taste of freedom if you look on our 20 things to do section of the school website.

We will be travelling back in time to the land of the Ancient Egyptians this term. On Wednesday 4th May we will launch our topic with an amazing Egyptian Day during which we will get to grips with Egyptian artefacts, play Egyptian games and of course, witness a real life mummification.

Our Science topic this term is Materials and we have lots of interesting experiments ready for you to tackle.

I believe that our swimming lessons will start on Tuesday 26th April. I truly believe that this will happen. I also believe that if you truly believe that something will happen for long enough, eventually it will happen.

Lots of other exciting things for us this term ....

Young Voices

Active Fusion singing event

Whitby residential

Musical extravaganza

Sports afternoon

Spring Two

Welcome to Spring 2 in Year Five. This half term we are learning about living things and life processes. Please have a look at our knowledge organiser to get a feel for what we will be up to in class.

Forest School

For the next four Thursdays we will be in Forest School on a Thursday afternoon. Children will need to bring a change of warm clothes, boots, wellies or v old trainers and a waterproof coat with them each Thursday.

Swimming

Our swimming lessons are due to start on Tuesday 22nd March. I am aware that this is the third time (or maybe more) we have had a start date for this - so fingers crossed!

Aspire Club

Aspire Club begins on Monday 21st February for those who have signed up. We will be working in smaller, more focussed groups to fill gaps and misconceptions in children's learning. Children will be given a drink and biscuit to keep their stamina up.

We have reached the end of a long and difficult term. Have a lovely peaceful and restful Christmas holiday.

When we return after Christmas ( Tuesday 4th January 2022 ) we will be launching straight into our new topic,

What's It Like In Space?

Our swimming lessons will finally start in the Spring Term - please check Parent Mail for exact dates.

Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year

I hope you have had a relaxing and enjoyable summer, and are eager to return to school. Year Five is a busy and exciting place to be. Fascinating topics, new experiences and challenges await.

This year, Scarbrough class will be supported by Miss Read.

PE will take place on a Tuesday. Please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in school each week. (Plain white t shirt, black shorts.)

We are looking forward to a brand new year and seeing you all again soon.

If parents need to contact me, please use   tickhillscarbrough@gmail.com      It would be useful for me to have a full set of parent emails, so if you could send me a quick message that would be great.
