Songs to learn for the Float
Greatest Show in the Galaxy
Now welcome folks, I'm sure you'd like to know,
We're at the start of one big circus show.
There are acts that are cool and acts that amaze.
Some acts are scary and some acts will daze.
Acts of all kinds, you can count on that, from folks that fly to disappearing acts.
There are lots of surprises for the family at the Greatest Show in the Galaxy!
So many strange surprises, I'm prepared to bet, whatever you've seen before,
… you ain't seen nothing yet!
Punch and Judy Man
I heard the sound of children's laughter fill the air
And as I joined their happy crowd that gathered there
My head began to spin just like a carousel
Ol' Punch and Judy Man that weaved his magic spell
Chorus:
Hey Punch and Judy Man
The greatest show on earth
Roll up, roll up my friends,
You'll get your money's worth
He'll make you laugh and sing
And chase you blues away
Oh help me if you can
Oh Punch and Judy Man
He took us on a trip across the magic sea
To great adventures in a world of fantasy
Far from the busy streets to never-never-land
Just by the simple waving of his clever hand
Chorus
So if you need someone to tell your troubles to
Just find that little man, that's all you have to do
He was the one who always seemed to understand
So come on, bring your troubles
To the Punch and Judy Man
Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!
For the benefit of Mr. Kite
There will be a show tonight on trampoline
The Hendersons will all be there
Late of Pablo Fanques Fair-what a scene
Over men and horses hoops and garters
Lastly through a hogshead of real fire!
In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world!
The celebrated Mr. K.
Performs his feat on Saturday at Bishops Gate
The Hendersons will dance and sing
As Mr. Kite fly's through the ring don't be late
Messrs. K and H. assure the public
Their production will be second to none
And of course Henry The Horse dances the waltz!
The band begins at ten to six
When Mr. K. performs his tricks without a sound
And Mr. H. will demonstrate
Ten summer sets he'll undertake on solid ground
Having been some days in preparation
A splendid time is guaranteed for all
And tonight Mr. Kite is topping the bill!
The animals went in two by two
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The animals went in two by two
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The animals went in two by two
The elephant and the kangaroo
And they all went into the ark
For to get out of the rain.
The animals went in three by three
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The animals went in three by three
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The animals went in three by three
The wasp, the ant and the bumblebee
And they all went into the ark
For to get out of the rain.
The animals went in four by four
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The animals went in four by four
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The animals went in four by four
The great hippopotamus stuck in the door
And they all went into the ark
For to get out of the rain.
The animals went in five by five
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The animals went in five by five
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The animals went in five by five
By hunting each other they kept alive
And they all went into the ark
For to get out of the rain.
The animals went in six by six
Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life
Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the trees
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at them fancy ants
And then maybe, well, try a few
The bare necessities of life will come to you
Looking for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That's why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life
Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the trees
Make some honey just for me
You look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance, fancy ants
Maybe try yourself a few
The bare necessities of life will come to you
Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That's why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life
Wherever I wander, whenever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the trees
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take glance at the fancy ants
And maybe try a few, haha, try one
The bare necessities of life
They'll come to you
They have come to you
Song from The Jungle Book
Now I'm the king of the swingers
Oh, the jungle VIP
I've reached the top and had to stop
And that's what botherin' me
I wanna be a man, mancub
And stroll right into town
And be just like the other men
I'm tired of monkeyin' around!
Oh, oobee doo
I wanna be like you
I wanna walk like you
Talk like you, too
You'll see it's true
An ape like me
Can learn to be human too
Now don't try to kid me, mancub
I made a deal with you
What I desire is man's red fire
To make my dream come true
Give me the secret, mancub
Clue me what to do
Give me the power of man's red flower
So I can be like you
You!
I wanna be like you
I wanna talk like you
Walk like you, too
You'll see it's true
Someone like me
Can learn to be
Like someone like me
Can learn to be
Like someone like you
Can learn to be
Like someone like me!
To Bombay
A traveling circus came
They brought an intelligent elephant
And Nellie was her name
One dark night
She slipped her iron chain
And off she ran to Hindustan
And was never seen again
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And trundled back to the jungle
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Night by night
She danced to the circus band
When Nellie was leading the big parade
She looked so proud and grand
No more tricks
For Nellie to perform
They taught her how to take a bow
And she took the crowd by storm
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And trundled back to the jungle
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
The head of the herd was calling
Far, far away
They met one night in the silver light
On the road to Mandalay
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And trundled back to the jungle
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And trundled back to the jungle
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump
Y1 Radio Stars!
On Wednesday 26th April, some of our Y1 children were interviewed by BBC Radio. They talked about reading to Meg the Pets As Therapy dog, and how much they enjoyed it! You can listen below to an MP3 of the show that went out across the nation at breakfast!
Commonwealth Week
13th March 2017
We studied Jamaica as part of Commonwealth week- thank you to all the children who brought in homework and related objects. We had lots of fun baking red velvet cakes, learning about geography and culture- and especially enjoyed singing some reggae in worship!
Science!
As part of our science topic, we are testing materials. The children made houses for the three little pigs out of metal, carpet, wool, paper, plastic and straw. We later discovered that we needed to follow it up with a fairer test!
We had a splendiferous, phizz-wizzing and wondercrump (© Roald Dahl) time on World Book Day on Friday 3rd March at Tickhill St Mary’s C of E Primary School. In Year One, as well as the usual dressing-up as book characters, all of our activities were inspired by our love of books.
During Maths the children undertook timed challenges such as speed story sequencing, words per minute, pages in 5 minutes and a book scavenger hunt. “I found some porridge, a train and a witch. Even though we didn’t find everything, it was really fun,” remarked Millie E. Next, in Literacy, we planned a story around the character that we had dressed up as. Charlie K, attired all in Lincoln green, explained his plot: “Robin Hood is out for revenge against the Sheriff of Nottingham. The Sheriff has been very mean again!” Snow White (Eve C) had this to add about her story- “They are building a house for all of the Dwarfs’ bumblebee toys. But the Big Bad Wolf is trying to eat them!”
After lunch, we had a parade for all the school to show their clever costumes to each other. Daisy L literally jumped for joy when she won a book token for her Harlequin costume!

Welcome back! Can you believe that we are already halfway through Year 1?
Please find below details of our new topic "Living in The Material World"- a science based theme about what things are made from. We will be doing lots of building and experimenting with materials, so I'm sure we will have lots of fun as well as learn lots of new things!
Happy New Year to all our parents and children. Please find below a summary of the learning children will be engaging in this term.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday, and homework is due back on Friday.
School CD Recording
I am proud to announce that our school has booked a very exciting project – we are recording our own CD! We are having a professional mobile recording studio visit our school on Tuesday 29 November. Your child will be involved in the CD recording, either singing songs from the school Christmas production or Christmas-themed music with the school choir.
The CDs are going to be sold by the school at £7.99 each and profits raised will go towards further developing our music provision. The CDs are limited editions; they can’t be bought in the shops, only from school and will be distributed strictly on a ‘first come first served’ basis. As well as a great memento for the children to own their own CD, we are sure you will enjoy it too, and it will also make a great present for loved ones - imagine their smile as they unwrap the unique gift of your children’s own CD!
To order your CD copies, please download and fill out the PDF below and return it to school by Tuesday 29th November.
Christmas Play Songs
Please find below the audio files and words for all of the Christmas songs we will be performing. Happy Singing!
On Tuesday October the 11th, we had a special visit from Meg the PAT dog. We learned that PAT stands for Pets As Therapy, and that only special animals with calm and gentle natures are allowed to be PAT animals. They help children and adults by visiting them and playing with them. We read to Meg every Tuesday, and we really look forward to seeing her!
We also learned what you need to do to look after her, and have written all about this in literacy.
Austerfield Trip- 27th September 2016
As you can see, the children had an excellent time out at Austerfield. We went on a bug hunt, had a picnic and met lots of exotic animals- it was truly a fascinating day out!
4th September 2016- A new term begins!
Hello and welcome back to school! I hope you had an enjoyable and refreshing summer. We have lots of exciting things happening this year, and we can't wait to get started!
Our Autumn Topic is "Aren't Animals Amazing?" and we will be investigating all kinds of animals, bugs and creatures through our writing, science, song and lots of other activities. Please see the attached document below for more information. We will also be visiting Austerfield Study Centre on Tuesday 27th of September for a fun-filled day out!
