Spring 1

Happy New Year and welcome back to our Spring 1 half term. We have a busy and fun time ahead of us with lots of exciting activities.

What are we learning in Spring 1?

This half term our topic is science based - "What's it like inside me?" We will identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood, recognise the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way our bodies function as well as describe the ways in which nutrients and water are transported within animals, including humans.

Our class text is Pig Heart Boy by Mallorie Blackman. A powerful story about friendship, loyalty and family around this topical and controversial issue.

We will continue to develop our reading comprehension skills using VIPERS - I have placed details of this on our page, please scroll down to read more and use to help your child with their reading comprehension skills.

We will have double PE on Thursday afternoons (indoor and outdoor), please ensure correct PE kit is kept in school all half term as we may have other opportunities.

Homework will be given out on Friday to be returned the following Friday when we will all check it together.  Please never stress over homework, if you are struggling come and talk to us.

Should you at any time need to discuss anything please do contact me and we could meet after school, alternatively please leave a message on the class e-mail account or with the school office.

Mrs Lowe

To help our knowledge of the circulatory system stick more, especially the parts and function of the heart, we applied our learning as we dissected pig hearts

We had an amazing time at Crucial Crew - was like being on a film set and we learned a lot about keeping ourselves safe

Some of us participated in an indoor athletics tournament at Sir Thomas Wharton Secondary School. We had great fun, did our best and came 3rd overall!

Reading for pleasure
